A quick look at the Leaping Bunny website can answer many of our questions in terms of what major products and companies are cruelty-free. Although, a rather challenging task to perfect – especially if you are just starting to make the transition – what’s important is that it is not impossible. Every little bit helps. Look for the many logos that indicate a product is cruelty-free and/or not tested on animals.
Unfortunately, most recognized brand names still continue the practice of testing on animals; however, there are also so many other great companies that have put a halt to such inhumane practices. Check out the list of different products and companies on the Leaping Bunny website and look for the leaping bunny logo. If the product is not listed on that site, look for the cruelty-free symbol, or just simply read the back of each product to see if it was tested on animals. It may be easier said than done, especially if you live somewhere where this type of information is readily available, but don’t give up if it takes more work and time than expected to figure out what’s cruelty-free and what’s not!
Start with one product and one company at a time, and change one practice after another. I have already switched to cruelty-free beauty and make-up products. It was not even a question or a matter of hesitation.
It is mind boggling that our beauty and perceived perfection is at the expense of other beings’ livelihood. So, start now! Start today! It is never too late to save a life, even if it means you will use a different beauty product to apply your make-up in the morning, wash your hair with a new shampoo, or buy a new cleaning spray to wipe your appliances!!
I will share some of my experiences with the products that I have used. Feel free to share your thoughts and your favourite go-to products, and let’s spread the word and be kind to animals 🙂
- NYX is my go-to cosmetic brand. If you live in Canada, you can easily find this brand in drugstores (Shoppers) or at NYX stores. The prices are reasonable and the quality is great. I mainly use the foundation, but I have tried their different colours of lipstick/lip gloss as well.
- I was introduced to this brand through my sister on my birthday 🙂 (it was an online purchase, so I still haven’t found a store that sells this brand). So far, I have used the foundation and the mascara, but I have not used the deodorant yet. The deodorant is aluminium-free which is what I always look for when shopping for deodorants. I also love the brush. It is a perfect match for the foundation and spreads it evenly on the face. Check it out for yourself and let me know if you try their other products.
